THE CLOSEST thing Shellharbour has to the Olympic Games is on again and the search has begun for the city's Tiger Woods or Cathy Freeman.

Registration has opened for competitors in the Shellharbour City Festival of Sport, which will run for three days over the first weekend in March.

Organiser Lee Cramer expects more than 2000 people to take part in a celebration of more than a dozen sports from fishing to surfing, golf to lawn bowls, and body building to table tennis.

"The whole push about the festival of sport is to promote a healthy lifestyle, to get out, be healthy and enjoy it with your family," she said.

Highlights will include a family fun day at Lake Illawarra PCYC, Reddall Pde, featuring stalls, rides, healthy lifestyle displays and sporting demonstrations.

"We are trying to get families to come down and have them try all these sports," Ms Cramer said.

Six teams have already entered the dragon boat challenge. Bookings must be made by March 1; call 4221 6169 or 0418 113 698.
