THE weather for fishing last weekend would best be described as just about perfect and the fish even co-operated too.
Peter De-Lucia fished Warilla beach early on Sunday morning but only managed to catch a beautiful sunrise.Hayden from The Tackle Shop, Shellharbour, reports the Minnamurra and Shoalhaven rivers both fished well with success for Shaun Budd and his boys. Whilst Shaun showed the way with nice duskies to 1kg, Shannon, 5, and Lachlan, 7, kept their end up with a nice bag.Lake Illawarra is beginning to fish even better than it has been, with some of the Illawarra Fly Fishers members taking home good sized whiting.Well known Illawarra angler Ken Christophers, went off Port on Sunday with his family and came home with a nice bag of snapper and flathead. Good to see you have still got your touch, Ken.We have all heard of the Three Tenors, well Ocean Beach Hotel Fishing club boasts the three Barrys!Barry Kime, Barry Whitfield and Barry Miller soaked royal red prawns in the washes around the islands off Port for good sized rock blackfish. Baz Miller's went a whopping 2.7kg. How were they on the barbecue, boys? There were good sized mowies off the south-east grounds and flathead on the wider drifts. Young Matthew Bysterveld fished with his dad and granddad off Shellharbour for several nice flathead. There are lots of rat kingies around Bass Pt and the crankshaft, readily taking pink squid lures but watch the sizes. Most are only around 58cm and minimum legal size is 60cm. Perhaps a live slimy or yellowtail in a berley trail will bring out their big brothers.***The next meeting of the Kiama Game Fishing Club will be held tonight from 7.30pm at the Kiama Leagues Club. All potential members and guests arewelcome.Kiama GFC meets monthly on the first Friday of the month at the Kiama Leagues Club.If you wish to find out more about the club or are interested in joining, please contact the secretary at kiamagfc@yahoo.com.au or come along to a meeting.***Yellowfin tuna have arrived. According to Tim at Anglers, Marine & Sport at Unanderra, the Huskisson White Sands Gamefish comp held last weekend saw over 75 yellowfin caught. They ranged from 6kg to 80kg. "Scooter Boys" boated a mako shark 159kg on 15kg gear and they also caught-tagged and released up to 46 'fin on their own. Top effort.Tim actually got time away from the shop and fished plastics on a secret sand bank in the Shoalhaven to land 46 dusky flathead. His best went 68cm and most were released. I couldn't get the exact location but you might be able to.***Balgownie Hotel held their first comp of the new fishing season with weighmaster Shane Rhodes being run off his feet. Shane himself weighed in a nice bag of flathead, bream and whiting he took out of Burrill Lake.Dave Mack and his deckie Dave Coulton fished offshore for flathead and reddies.Junior member Josh "Chip" Buckley fished the lake and was rewarded with five flathead.New member Frank Pinto out did the "jewfish king" Don Reilly, when they fished together on Sat night for three mulloway. Frank's two went 7.9kg and 7.6kg while the other one was a tad lighter at 6.5kg.*** The next monthly meeting for the Illawarra Fly Fishers club will be held next Tuesday from 7.30pm at Collegians, Flinders St, Wollongong.
