TO coincide with the migration of the black marlin to subtropical waters, the Toyota Sportivo Inter-club Game Fishing Tournament will be held off Port Stephens this month.

The competition will be held from Saturday, February 22, until Sunday, March 2.

Among the 1000 anglers and 230 game boats expected to fish the tournament, will be many from the three Illawarra game fishing clubs, Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama.

A highlight of the week-long tournament will be the Blue Water Classic, a one-day event to see which lucky angler will win a Toyota Hilux 4-2 vehicle. The winner does not need to have any fishing skills, it's simply by a draw from a hat.

A women's gala day tournament will be fished for on Monday, February 24.

It will give female first timers and professional anglers the opportunity to compete against each other for some wonderful prizes.

Last year the ladies day bash attracted 119 female anglers who caught, tagged and released 59 game fish.

The new president of the Game Fishing Association of NSW Sanchia Glaskin said: ``Every year, more and more women are participating in a traditionally male dominated sport, including fishing.

``During the year 2000, 48.3 per cent of all sports participants were women and over 46,000 of them were women anglers".

Ms Glaskin is the first female president of the NSW Game Fishing Association.

The Toyota 2003 Inter-club Tournament also caters for children, with kids attending fishing clinics and seminars.
