Dolphin Fish Great Sport And Tasty Too

OFFSHORE fishing is offering plenty of options for Central Coast anglers this week, with even your humble scribe getting among some great dolphin fish.
I had almost forgotten just how great these little battlers are for sport fishing.
And on the table, well, let us just say they are absolutely magic.
All you need to do is find a few fish-trap buoys and success is almost assured.
Any method usually works ? either a lightly-weighted pilchard bait drifted near the buoys, or my preferred method of casting a lure or saltwater fly.
Kingfish have also been very active, although the majority have been throwbacks around the 55-60 centimetre mark. But once again, kingfish are great sport at any size and, with the appropriate tackle, one can have a ball with these feisty little battlers.
The marlin scene is firing and reports from Port Stephens suggest the season, although late, should be a good one.
Scott Thorrington from Haven Charters was quick to capitalise on the action and ventured up to the Norah Canyons off Swansea to take a nice 60 kilogram striped marlin.
Green water has shut down the beach fishing scene in the past few days.
But the estuaries have still been good for flathead.
Keen angler Damien Aley has been doing well in Brisbane Water by spinning various shore lines using soft plastic jigs. He has taken some really nice flathead.
There are still some bream about too, particularly around the leases. Such fish are a tackle shop's dream, with a heavy-handed approach being the only way to extract these oyster crunchers.
