EVEN though Lake Jindabyne is surrounded by bushfires, Steve Williamson, the skipper of Lake Jindabyne Trout Fishing Adventures, says rainbow trout are biting, even in the middle of the day.
``Brown trout are also attacking lures and over the past week we have been picking up Atlantic salmon, some 38cm in length," Williamson said.
``The best lure to use is the Tasmanian devil No89 called a Rowley riot, which is yellow in colour, with red and black spots."
Incidentally the Rowley riot was named after Rowley Hoyer, who used to work at Ern Webbs Sport in Wollongong.
``Most of the rainbow trout caught during the week were full of mud eyes. So if you plan to bait-fish this weekend, use mud eyes over the weed beds under a float," Williamson added.
``Spinners have been catching fish close to the rocks and snags, early in the morning and late in the afternoon, using No36 Tassie devils.
``If you plan on fly fishing, stick with a mud eye pattern fly, or if fishing the Thredbo River, which is full of brown beetles and grasshoppers, use a brown muddler fly," Williamson said.
